The Makkah Precinct Crossings
Figure · 19 September 2026 edition
The sacred precinct and the designated ownership zones are separate boundaries, and a property can be inside one and outside the other. OpenStreetMap holds no geometry for the precinct: its relation is a tag-only stub with no members, and the Grand Mosque’s own multipolygon is empty. Only the signage is mapped. The crossings are therefore drawn as points, and nothing here says what falls inside them. Joining them into a shape would present our own interpolation as a survey.

Makkah, north up, with 12 designated zones drawn. You can zoom in. The table below the figure lists every zone.
Interactive map. With the map focused: arrow keys move it, plus and minus zoom, zero returns to the opening view. The zoom buttons are in the map’s top corner. “Layers”, under the map, switches each layer on or off and holds the views and the buttons that move the map, so everything dragging does can be done without it.

29 signposted crossings of the Makkah sacred precinct are drawn on this figure, 5.5 km to 21.3 km from the Grand Mosque. The sacred precinct is drawn on this figure as a line, for orientation. It runs through the 29 signposted crossings, taken in bearing order from the Grand Mosque; the signs are real objects and the line between them is ours. Nothing on this site is measured from it, and it decides nothing about ownership: the precinct and the designated zones are two different lines. Where it matters where the boundary runs, the signs on the ground are the authority. Zone boundaries: Saudi Properties portal, retrieved 19 Sep 2026, simplified to 10 m for drawing. About this figure
Or ask us, and our assistant answers from the same sources.
Where do these numbers come from?
From the full boundary the Saudi Properties portal publishes, retrieved 2026-09-19, measured from the point nearest the Grand Mosque and walked at 1.2 and 1.0 metres a second, so each walk is a floor.
May I reuse this figure?
The measured data is published under CC BY 4.0, so you may reuse it anywhere, commercially too, with Zullfa named and linked. The drawing itself is ours, so embed it or use the PNG with the credit printed on it.

The boundary of the sacred precinct of Makkah (the Haram) runs along the rainwater divide on the surrounding ridges and is marked on the ground by boundary markers; the nearest marker is at Al-Tan‘eem to the north, about 5.2 km from the Kaaba, and the farthest is on Jabal al-Muwashshah on the western boundary, about 21.2 km away.
